1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Dr. Rotimi A. Owoade (“I,” “me,” “my,” or “the Author”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you visit authorwebsites.bookbub.com (the “Site”), subscribe to my reader newsletter, purchase books or other products directly from me, enter a giveaway or promotion, or otherwise contact me.
I am an independent self-published author. I operate this Site as a sole proprietor and I am the data controller responsible for the personal information described in this Policy.
Please read this Policy carefully. By using the Site or providing me with your personal information, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the practices described here. If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the Site or submit information to me.
This Policy does not apply to third-party retailers and platforms where my books are sold or promoted — including Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Google Play, and BookBub. Those companies are independent controllers of any information you provide to them and have their own privacy policies, which I encourage you to review.2. Quick Summary
The plain-English version, for readers who want the short form. The full detail follows below.

• I collect very little. Mainly your email address if you join my newsletter, plus anonymous or pseudonymous website analytics.
• I never sell your personal information. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
• You can leave at any time. Every email I send includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and I honour it promptly.
• I use trusted service providers. Email, analytics, and payment processing are handled by established third-party companies bound by contract to protect your data.
• You have rights over your data. Including the right to access, correct, or delete it — see Section 12 and Section 13.

3. Information I Collect
The information I collect depends on how you interact with me. I have grouped it below by category.3.1 Information You Provide Directly

• Newsletter and reader list sign-ups: your email address, and optionally your first name, the country or region you are in, and any genre or content preferences you choose to share.
• Direct purchases: your name, email address, billing address, and — for physical goods such as signed paperbacks — your shipping address and phone number. Payment card details are entered directly with my payment processor and are never received or stored by me.
• Contact form and email correspondence: your name, email address, and the contents of your message, including any information you volunteer within it.
• Giveaways, ARC teams, and street teams: your name, email address, country, preferred reading format, and (for prize fulfilment) a postal address. Where a review copy is distributed through a service such as BookFunnel, StoryOrigin, or NetGalley, that service may also collect delivery and download information.
• Comments and reader submissions: any name, email address, or content you submit through blog comments, surveys, or reader questionnaires on the Site.

3.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you visit the Site, certain technical information is collected automatically by my hosting provider and analytics tools:

• IP address (which may be truncated or anonymised by my analytics configuration)
• Browser type and version, operating system, and device type
• Referring website or link — for example, whether you arrived from a BookBub feature, a newsletter swap, or a search engine
• Pages viewed, time spent on each page, and links clicked
• Approximate geographic location derived from IP address, typically at country or city level
• Date and time of your visit

Within my email newsletter, my email service provider may also record whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. This helps me understand which content readers find useful. You can prevent open-tracking by disabling image loading in your email client.

3.3 Information I Do Not Collect
I do not knowingly collect special category or sensitive personal data — such as racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, health information, sexual orientation, or biometric data. Please do not send me such information. I also do not receive or store full payment card numbers at any point.4. How Information Is Collected
Information reaches me in three ways: you give it to me directly; it is gathered automatically when you browse the Site; or it is passed to me by a third-party service you have used, such as a payment processor confirming an order, or a newsletter-swap or giveaway platform where you opted in to receive my emails.
Where a third party provides me with your email address, it is because you gave that third party permission to share it. If you believe you were added to my list in error, contact me using the details in Section 19 and I will remove you immediately.5. How I Use Your Information
I use personal information only for the purposes described below:

• To send my reader newsletter — new release announcements, cover reveals, sales and promotions, early chapters, and occasional personal updates
• To deliver free books, bonus content, or reader-magnet files you have requested
• To process, fulfil, and confirm direct orders, including shipping physical items and issuing refunds
• To respond to your questions, comments, and support requests
• To administer giveaways, contests, ARC distribution, and street team activity
• To understand how readers find and use the Site, so I can improve it
• To measure which promotions work — for example, whether a BookBub Featured Deal drove traffic to my Site
• To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, spam sign-ups, and security incidents
• To comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations

I do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

6. Legal Bases for Processing (UK/EU Readers)
If you are located in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, the UK GDPR and EU GDPR require me to identify a lawful basis for each processing activity. Those bases are set out below.

Where I rely on legitimate interests, I have assessed that my interests do not override your rights and freedoms. You may object to that processing at any time — see Section 12.7. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. The Site uses the following categories:

• Strictly necessary cookies: required for the Site to function — for example, remembering the contents of a shopping cart or keeping you logged in. These cannot be switched off.
• Preference cookies: remember choices such as your language, region, or whether you have dismissed a newsletter pop-up.
• Analytics cookies: help me understand how visitors use the Site — which pages are read, how long visits last, and where traffic comes from. These are typically set by Google Analytics or a comparable provider.
• Marketing and affiliate cookies: may be set if I run advertising or participate in affiliate programmes such as Amazon Associates, so that qualifying purchases can be attributed.

Where required by law, a cookie banner will appear on your first visit so you can accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time through the banner or the cookie settings link on the Site.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings — most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent parts of the Site from working correctly.

Do Not Track. There is no industry-agreed standard for responding to browser “Do Not Track” signals, so the Site does not currently respond to them. Where legally required, however, I treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as a valid opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information.

8. The Reader Newsletter
My newsletter is opt-in only. I add you to my list when you sign up on my Site, download a free book or bonus, enter a giveaway where the newsletter sign-up was disclosed, or otherwise expressly consent.
Every email I send contains an unsubscribe link in the footer. Clicking it removes you from the list, usually immediately and in all cases within a few days. You may also reply to any email and ask to be removed, or contact me directly using the details in Section 19.
Unsubscribing from marketing emails does not stop transactional messages relating to an order you have placed — such as an order confirmation or shipping notification — as those are necessary to complete our contract.
My newsletter is delivered through a third-party email service provider (for example Mailchimp, ConvertKit/Kit, MailerLite, or a comparable platform). Your email address and engagement history are stored on that provider's systems under their privacy policy and my agreement with them.9. Direct Sales and Payment Information
If you buy a book or other item directly from me, checkout is handled by a third-party payment processor — for example Stripe, PayPal, Shopify Payments, Payhip, or Gumroad. You enter your card or account details directly on their systems.
I never see, receive, or store your full payment card number, CVV, or bank credentials. What I receive from the processor is limited to the information I need to fulfil and account for your order: your name, email address, order contents, amount paid, the last four digits of the card or the payment method used, and — for physical goods — your shipping address.
If you purchase my books through a retailer such as Amazon, Apple Books, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, or Google Play, I do not receive your name, email address, or payment details at all. Those retailers provide me only with aggregated, anonymised sales reports. Your relationship in that case is with the retailer, under their privacy policy.10. How I Share Your Information
I do not sell your personal information, and I do not rent, trade, or otherwise disclose it to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
I share personal information only in the following limited circumstances:

• Service providers. Companies that perform functions on my behalf — email delivery, website hosting, analytics, payment processing, book delivery, shipping and fulfilment, and file storage. They may access your information only to perform those services and are contractually required to protect it.
• Promotional partners, with your consent. If you enter a multi-author giveaway or newsletter-swap promotion, the organiser and participating authors may receive your email address — but only where the sign-up form clearly disclosed this and you opted in.
• Professional advisers. My accountant, bookkeeper, or legal adviser, where necessary and subject to confidentiality obligations.
• Legal and safety reasons. Where I am required to disclose information by law, court order, or a valid request from a public authority, or where disclosure is necessary to protect my rights, safety, or property, or those of others.
• Business transfer. If my author business or catalogue is sold, merged, or transferred, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. I will notify affected readers where required.

11. Data Retention
I keep personal information only for as long as I need it for the purposes described in this Policy, or for as long as the law requires.

When information is no longer needed, I delete it or irreversibly anonymise it.12. Your Rights Under GDPR (UK and EEA Readers)
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, you have the following rights in relation to your personal information:

• Right of access — to be told whether I hold information about you and to receive a copy of it.
• Right to rectification — to have inaccurate or incomplete information corrected.
• Right to erasure — to have your information deleted, sometimes called the “right to be forgotten,” where there is no overriding reason for me to keep it.
• Right to restrict processing — to ask me to pause processing while a concern is investigated.
• Right to data portability — to receive information you provided to me in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
• Right to object — to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and an absolute right to object to direct marketing at any time.
• Right to withdraw consent — to withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
• Right to lodge a complaint — to complain to your national supervisory authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in the EEA it is your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, contact me using the details in Section 19. I will respond within one month, and will tell you if I need longer because the request is complex. There is no charge for making a request unless it is manifestly unfounded or excessive. I may need to verify your identity before acting — usually by confirming the request came from the email address on file.

13. Your Rights Under CCPA/CPRA (California Residents)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the following rights:

• Right to know — to request the categories and specific pieces of personal information I have collected about you, the sources, the business purpose, and the categories of third parties to whom it was disclosed.
• Right to delete — to request deletion of personal information I collected from you, subject to legal exceptions such as completing a transaction or complying with a legal obligation.
• Right to correct — to request correction of inaccurate personal information.
• Right to opt out of sale or sharing — to direct me not to sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
• Right to limit use of sensitive personal information — to restrict the use of sensitive categories of data.
• Right to non-discrimination — to receive equal service and pricing whether or not you exercise these rights. I will never deny you content, charge you a different price, or degrade your reader experience for exercising a privacy right.

Notice regarding sale and sharing. I have not sold personal information in the preceding twelve months, and I do not sell personal information as that term is defined under the CCPA. I also do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.

Categories of personal information collected in the preceding twelve months are: identifiers (such as name, email address, postal address, IP address); commercial information (such as records of books or products purchased); and internet or other electronic network activity (such as browsing and interaction data). Each category may be disclosed for a business purpose to the service providers described in Section 10.

To exercise these rights, contact me using the details in Section 19. You may also designate an authorised agent to make a request on your behalf, in which case I may ask for proof of that authorisation. I will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond substantively within 45 days, extendable by a further 45 days where reasonably necessary.

14. Other U.S. State Privacy Rights
Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws — including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and Montana, among others — have rights broadly similar to those described in Section 13, including rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of their personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising and the sale of personal information. Some of these states also provide a right to appeal a refused request. To exercise any of these rights, or to appeal a decision, contact me using the details in Section 19.15. International Data Transfers
I am based in Canada. My service providers — including my email platform, website host, and payment processor — may store and process personal information in the United States or other countries whose data protection laws differ from those in your country of residence.
Where personal information is transferred out of the UK or EEA, I rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under GDPR, which may include European Commission adequacy decisions, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or Standard Contractual Clauses incorporated into my agreements with providers. You may request a copy of the relevant safeguard by contacting me.16. Data Security
I take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures include HTTPS/TLS encryption on the Site, reputable service providers with their own security programmes, strong and unique passwords with multi-factor authentication on accounts that hold reader data, limiting access to information to what is necessary, and outsourcing payment handling to PCI-DSS compliant processors.
No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, however, and I cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, I will notify the relevant supervisory authority and affected individuals as required by applicable law.17. Children's Privacy
The Site and my newsletter are intended for adults and are not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 years of age (or under 13, where that is the applicable threshold in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided me with personal information, please contact me and I will delete it promptly.

The Site contains links to third-party websites and platforms — including retailer pages, BookBub, Goodreads, social media profiles, and other authors' sites. I am not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties. Once you leave my Site, this Policy no longer applies. Please review the privacy policy of any site you visit.
Where I participate in an affiliate programme, such as Amazon Associates, clicking an affiliate link may result in a cookie being set by that programme so a qualifying purchase can be attributed to me. I earn a small commission on such purchases at no additional cost to you.19. How to Contact Me

I may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in my practices, the services I use, or the law. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
If I make a material change — for example, if I begin collecting a new category of information or using it for a materially different purpose — I will notify newsletter subscribers by email and post a prominent notice on the Site before the change takes effect. Your continued use of the Site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
